Jerome Vered

Totaling his winnings from all appearances, he won $496,602! This writer even advanced to match Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, who we will discuss soon, in the Ultimate Tournament of Champions. Wait until you hear this…Jerome Vered actually took the Jeopardy! test four times before they called him to be an alternate in March of 1991. Even then, he wasn’t used in the tapings, but returned the following year to become a 5 day champ. I guess fourth time is the charm?

Frank Spangenberg

Way back when in 1990, Spangenberg became the first contestant to win over $100,000 in one week. So, from that 5 day streak he won $102,597. However, at the time he could only keep $75,000 because of a winnings cap. He donated the rest, $27,597, to a hospice charity. In fact, his special donation came to the hospice organization just one day after they were told they needed a safety system that cost about as much as his excess prize money! Incredible! Yes, he took home more after the tournament ($105,199 more!).
