Christopher Walken has rarely made any statements about Natalie Wood’s death. He told People magazine back in 1986 that he didn’t know what happened and alluded that Wood probably accidentally fell into the water. Then in his 1997 interview with Playboy he went into more detail. Walken said, “Anybody there saw the logistics — of the boat, the night, where we were, that it was raining — and would know exactly what happened.”

Yet, the Sheriff’s Department seems to disagree with the original assessment of the death. In 2011, they reopened the case. Additionally, they changed her death certificate from citing an accidental drowning to “drowning and other undetermined factors.” Apparently, new witnesses have since come forward. Nearby boaters heard arguing and then a woman’s screams that night.
