Eight men were tasked with the mission of saving the life of one and well, you know the rest. Although there are a few behind-the-scenes facts you didn’t know about Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed World War II drama, Saving Private Ryan.
Pass It On
Saving Private Ryan was actually the only movie which Steven Spielberg directed in that point in his career where he hadn’t developed it on his own. We have the screenwriter Robert Rodat to thank and it was his script that was sent to Spielberg by his agent.
Just One Day
Going off the last tidbit, the script was also sent to Tom Hanks. Of course Hanks also wanted to create the movie. Therefore, Spielberg and Hanks (who at this point had yet to work together) called one another to find they were both in fact reading the same script and moreover, both wanted to collaborate on the movie all in the same day. Takes the saying “what a difference a day makes” to a whole other level.
