Saturday Cartoon
Macaulay began voicing Nick McClary in 1992, which was a character on the Saturday morning cartoon Wish Kid. The show, about a boy who catches a shooting star with a simple baseball mit, was also based partly on Macaulay. The show ran for a season, and Macaulay continued to succeed in many different entertainment ventures. However, he desperately wanted to lead a more normal life. This would lead to conflict with his father.
Darker Role
Things took a turn with his role in The Good Son, a 1993 drama. Macaulay played a more troubled character who intimidates his cousin in the film. A stray from the comedic tone of Home Alone, the film did well in theaters, grossing $60 million. Critics did not go wild and one notable critic, Roger Ebert gave it a lousy half star, warning it wasn’t for kids.
