Joseph enrolled at Pepperdine University in Malibu in 2015, and graduated in 2019. His father attended his graduation, and Schwarzenegger shared a supportive post on Twitter. Once Joseph graduated with his degree, he was told by his father that he would no longer be receiving any financial support.

Following his graduation from university, Baena took his career in a few directions. He decided to try his hand at his father’s craft and pursued acting. He appeared in his first film in 2022, in the movie Chariot. He also had a role in the film Bully High. He dabbled in TV in Scam Squad and on the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars.
