From the intention of small budget with a handwritten first draft of the script, Raiders of the Lost Ark greatly surpassed this intended idea of a small venture. Production costs totaled at $22 million, which was triple what they planned for initially!

Who could forget the iconic boulder chasing Indy in the beginning of Raiders? Turns out, it was made of fiberglass! If you watch the DVD’s bonus features, the sound designer Ben Burtt reveals that they failed to capture the right sound by pushing boulders down a hill themselves. In fact, they captured the perfect sound from a Honda Civic’s rear tires while driving over gravel.
